New York State has a proud tradition of public service. The State's skilled and industrious public employees serve more than 18 million New York State residents through a wide variety of professions. They make a positive difference for our individuals, families and businesses. The Executive Branch employs most of the State's workforce in different agencies, including The Department of Taxation and Finance. While each branch acts as a single employer, employees can advance within a single agency or transfer to another State agency. Benefits and leave accruals are transferable throughout New York State government. Employees in State agencies are appointed to positions according to New York State Civil Service Law. These jobs are filled through competitive exams that test an individual's ability. Exams are posted regularly and include title, salary, duties, minimum qualifications, subject and date of exam, exam fee and information about how to apply. Visit the New York State Department of Civil Service Web site to learn more about careers with NYS.
