Our goal is that all taxpayers meet their tax obligations and voluntarily pay the correct tax due.  While the vast majority of taxpayers do voluntarily file their tax returns, some are not voluntarily compliant. Effective and coordinated audit, collection, and criminal investigation activities deter tax avoidance and abuse and are important elements in providing a fair tax system for all taxpayers.

New special investigations units combat tax abuse and evasion
Increased criminal enforcement is a Department priority. Recently, we more than quadrupled our fraud fighting forces by deploying specially trained multi-disciplinary investigations units statewide. Teams of auditors, investigators and attorneys are using all the enforcement tools at their disposal to stop those engaged in tax evasion and fraud at the expense of other taxpayers and their communities.
