Tax Commissioner Names Top Deputies

New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Commissioner Robert L. Megna today announced that he has appointed long-time Department employee Jamie Woodward as the Department's Executive Deputy Commissioner.

Commissioner Megna also named Margaret M. Sherman as deputy commissioner for Processing and Taxpayer Services, the position Ms. Woodward previously held.

Commissioner Megna said, "Both Ms. Woodward and Ms. Sherman are experienced and innovative tax administrators whose leadership will help us meet the challenges facing the Department in the coming years."

Executive Deputy Commissioner Woodward, who resides in Loudonville, is a 27-year Department veteran. She was previously director of Operations in the Tax Compliance Division, assistant director of the Audit Division's Transaction and Transfer Tax Bureau, and counsel to the Department's first tax amnesty program.

Executive Deputy Commissioner Woodward received her bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School. She was born and raised in the Buffalo area.

Deputy Commissioner Sherman, of Slingerlands, was appointed deputy commissioner for Administration in March 2007. She was previously deputy comptroller in the Office of the State Comptroller, and director of Budget Studies for the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

Deputy Commissioner Sherman earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a master's degree from Cornell University. She is from the Rochester area.
