As an Information Technology Specialist you may carry out the following activities: Performing coding, testing, and debugging activities on application and systems code supporting the Department’s multi-tiered Service Oriented Architecture. Planning and conducting application programming design on JAVA and COBOL based programs; implementing new and revised systems; maintaining systems after implementation. Conducting or assisting in business/systems analysis. Documenting business systems or processes by describing all relevant factors including work flow processes, data input and output activities based on both traditional batch processing and our developing Process Server transactional based processing systems; describing data elements, and overall program goals, objectives, and external considerations, such as federal and state legislative mandates; developing and administering a transactional, dynamic, or interactive web site; or designing, developing, and administering DB2/Viper database systems to support IT applications on mainframe and mid range platforms; gathering, organizing, and performing preliminary analysis of information about costs/benefits, advantages/disadvantages, and technical feasibility of designing and implementing proposed systems; participating in meetings and working with agency management, users, vendors, consultants, and IT staff to discuss IT solution options and to assist in recommending appropriate system platforms for meeting program requirements - - e.g., externalized business rules engine; assisting in analyzing the impact of implementing new or modified systems on computer resources and other agency programs.
